WHAT IS Etching
Etching is a chemical process that is only available on our metal cards. With this process a small amount of material is removed to create a slightly recessed appearance. On our black metal cards etching does not result in a difference in texture however on our stainless steel, and gold metal cards etching results in a matte finish. On our rose gold stock with mirrored finishing the etching will be mirrored, and on our rose gold stock with matte finishing etching will be matte. Etching is perfect when combined with spot colour since the recession created will help protect the spot colour from excessive friction and damage.
DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
● Etching is ideal for detailed designs
● The cost of non-bleed etching is included in the base cost of our metal cards
● There is an addition surcharge for etching that goes to the edge of the card or goes to the edge of a cut through. Please email our sales team for a custom quote if this is the case
● Full bleed etching may result in a slightly thinner card due to the amount of material that is removed during the etching process
● If the design uses multiple spot colors in close proximity to each other, you must either include a 1mm thick buffer zone of un-etched material or do not use any etching beneath the spot color
● On the following metal cards, etching will be matte:
● Stainless Steel
● Gold metal with mirror finishing
● Gold metal with matte finishing
● Rose gold metal with matte finishing
● On the following metal cards, etching will have the same finishing as the rest of the card, only recessed:
● Rose gold with mirror finishing
● Premium metal
● Black metal
● Luxury black metal
